It would be virtually impossible to remove all four corners and make a 'hanging cone' of any ceiling paper without marking in some way, the surface used for sticking. 

It would be a physical impossibility to do this so perfectly, I would think. 

Yet the entire ceiling paper was hanging down from around the light rose, and there was no tear marks on the underside of the ceiling paper making this perfect 'hanging cone'. 

The next evening, just before going to bed, we opened the door to that room again, and saw the ceiling paper still hanging as before, but by the next evening, it had fallen to the ground.
